AND TODAY, I AM ALIVE!

And today, I am alive!

Years ago, Boy With a Ball’s first team in San Antonio, Texas met a young woman in foster care named Evelin. Evelin was a beautiful girl with a fiery personality and impeccable sense of humor. As Evelin battled through the brokenness and wounds she had picked up along the way, our team did everything we could to be there for her, loving her, believing that the same Jesus who had transformed each of our lives could and would transform hers.

Evelin had a special connection with Jamie and Kathy Johnson and told Jamie that he was a father to her. One morning, as the BWAB team had launched into Costa Rica, Evelin sent a poem to Jamie. The testimony her poem reveals demonstrates Jesus- who had transformed each of our lives- also transformed Evelin's out of His love for her.

From Evelin –

What’s up?  I miss you….wish I could hug you…

I am a soul in transit.

A pretty girl hiding inside her misfit…

Curiosity, and sadness

Confiding in my

IndifferencE

Memories…equal…shame…

Waking up every day,

Getting a little better at this game…

Opening my heart to new beginnings,

Releasing all those things that choked me…

Cleaning out the garage,

Finding what I never knew…

All the things misplaced,

All the fuzzy shades of blue…

My hair grows long, my smile begins to see…

And, yes, in the middle of the night,

I drink my coffee…

Far away.

So far away.

But you’re still right here,

I miss you so much…a little more every year,

How much you’ll mean to me you’ll never know.

A glimpse of a human father’s love…

That which I have never known.

That which has made me to grow…

I blossom, I sparkle…

I shine!!! I rise!!!

And today, I am alive!!!

Hahaha…I love you so much.  I suppose I couldn’t find words so I just painted:)

I miss you!
