Read, Write to Lead is an effective literacy program that brings together Ivy League expertise, creative, exciting leadership, and all-out, given volunteers to change reading and writing for a child.
Read, Write to Lead began in San Antonio as a summer camp with the goal to help young people love reading and writing in the midst of an area where most young people were below reading level. We know that helping a young person's attitude towards reading dramatically changes the way they engage with school and learning, and that's what Read, Write to Lead does. Combining a caring, dedicated team with fun, imaginitive activities, young people spend the summer camp writing their own book, reading and being read do, and playing games that focus on helping them learn new words and skills. This intervention then leads into a year-long tutoring center where young people are paired with volunteers who help them continue to grow through their academic studies.
